Daniel Raiskin will conduct the orchestra in a proposal with works by Turina, Korngold and Prokofiev, performing as soloist. Benjamin Schmid
Romeo and Juliet is the seventh program of the season of the Sinfónica de Tenerife, a musical proposal conducted by Daniel Raiskin and with the presence of violinist Benjamin Schmid, who will perform as guest soloist. This new concert will take place on Friday [16th], at 7:30 p.m. at the Auditorio de Tenerife.
Danzas fantásticas, op 22, is a score signed by Joaquín Turina in 1919 which, according to its author, visits different states of the soul through rhythm and contrast. Inspired by different epigraphs of La Orgía, a novel by José Más, its melodies range from the Basque zortziko to the Andalusian farruca.
Next, the orchestra will perform Enrich Wolfgang Korngold's Violin Concerto in D major, op.35, a composition premiered in Missouri in 1947, which displays all the melodic and romantic dreamy abilities of this composer. Reminiscent of the soundtracks that sounded in different Hollywood productions, in the first movement it is possible to distinguish the violin from Another Dawn, a film starring Errol Flynn; during the second, part of his work for Juárez, performed by Bette Davis; or the melodies from The Prince and the Pauperin the Allegro assai vivace.
After the break, it will be the turn for a selection of suites from the ballet Romeo and Juliet composed by Sergei Prokofiev at the zenith of his career. The Sinfónica de Tenerife will perform specifically No. 2, op. 64 ter and No. 1, op. 64 bis, precisely those chosen by the author himself to present them in Brno in 1938, years before the premiere of the complete ballet. His musical vision of the Shakespearean drama was so complex that the Kirov ballet itself maintained its reticence because it considered his music too complicated to dance to.
