Markus Stenz
Considered one of the leading conductors of our time, in 2023/24 Markus Stenz returns to the Dutch National Opera to conduct "Mahagonny", "Die Walküre" in Hangzhou and conducts a special performance of "Fin de Partie" in Kurtág's hometown of Budapest before taking the production on tour to Hamburg and Cologne. His orchestral engagements take him to MDR Leipzig, the Stuttgart Philharmonic and Staatskapelle Halle. This season also marks Stenz's return to the Orchestre National de Lyon and, after a highly successful debut with Mahler's Symphony No. 2 in 2022, he returns to the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra for Bruckner's Symphony No. 7. Stenz conducts the Orchestra della Toscana and the Fondazione Haydn di Bolzano, and further afield he will return to the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and make his debut with the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra. His most notable recent symphonic engagements include his debut with the Orchestra of the National Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome, multiple appearances with the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra and regular visits to three orchestras where he previously held positions: the Radio Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra and the Gürzenich Orchester Köln. With the latter, he received the award for "Best Concert Program of the Season" and initiated several youth and educational projects such as "Experiment Klassik", "3. Akt" and the live recording program "GO live".
Cellist Truls Mork
Truls Mork
His powerful performances combining intensity and mastery have made him one of the most distinguished cellists of our time. He performs with the most important orchestras: Orchestre de Paris, Berlin and Vienna Philharmonics, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Münchner Philharmoniker, Philharmonia, London Philharmonic and Gewandhausorchester Leipzig. In North America he has performed with the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia and Cleveland orchestras, the Boston Symphony and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. He has collaborated with great conductors: Salonen, Zinman, Honeck, Dudamel, Rattle, Nagano, Nézet-Séguin and Eschenbach, among others. Born in Norway, he began his cello studies with his father, and later continued with Frans Helmerson, Heinrich Schiff and Natalia Schakowskaya. At the beginning of his career he won the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow (1982), Cassadó Cello Competition in Florence (1983), the UNESCO Prize at the European Union Radio Competition in Bratislava (1983) and the Naumberg Competition in New York (1986).
